2018 Convention Agenda

Day 1 – Saturday, November 3rd

Seeing Light with Nicole York

Date: November 3rd

Time: 9-12:30 and 1:30-4:00
Location: HYATT PLACE DENVER SOUTH/PARK MEADOWS

9030 East Westview Road, Lone Tree, Colorado 80124

One of the most important qualities a photographer can have is their ability to solve problems. Since the essence of photography is capturing and manipulating light, being able to solve lighting problems is a key component of being a reliable, consistent photographer. Some aspects of problem solving begin before ever stepping foot on set, during the previsualization and planning phase, and others happen in the middle of a session due to unforeseen circumstances. But a photographer who knows what to look for—how to see light—and how to adapt will always be able to get the shot, and that’s the goal of this class.

We are going to talk about how to plan your light, how to make sure you’ve got a backup plan, what to do when things go wrong, how you can spot imperfections in your light as you shoot, and how to fix the causes of those

imperfections so lighting looks seamless and intentional.

In this class you will learn to:

Previsualize and plan a lighting scenario

Build light set-ups from the ground up

Light your subjects with intention

Recognize and troubleshoot lighting issues

Utilize a backup plan

Every student will leave this class with a system for seeing light, recognizing, and addressing lighting issues that they can use during any shoot and in any lighting situation.
